Tia Xia is a multidisciplinary artist born in southwest China, currently based in Los Angeles. She works mainly in painting, drawing, and installation. Raised in a lush environment and a challenging family background, Tia developed a lasting inclination to use nature's visual language to explore the complex and subtle aspects of the human condition. Influenced by Abstract Expressionism, Eastern philosophy, and her experiences in the US, her work probes the essence of life - its vibrant energy, persistent struggles, and elusive ideals. Her art often carries a spiritual quality while embracing the materiality of her mediums and her own body, allowing color, texture, shape and gestural brushstrokes to embody inquiries that are at times intuitive and at times intellectual. Tia has participated in SoCal MFA group exhibitions and curated gallery shows. Her work is included in private collections worldwide, notably Soho House West Hollywood. She holds a BA in Advertising from Sichuan University and an MFA in Fine Arts from Otis College of Art and Design.
