Vase of Fortune and Prosperity is a ceramic work by Luo Zhenping that combines the traditional double-gourd form with themes drawn from Chinese flower-and-bird painting. In Chinese culture, the gourd is associated with fortune, prosperity and enduring auspiciousness through the phonetic relationship between hulu (gourd) and fulu (fortune and prosperity). The work brings together traditional vessel forms, flower-and-bird painting and auspicious symbolism, continuing Luo’s exploration of Chinese cultural imagery through contemporary ceramic practice.
