Harmony Above All is a ceramic work by Luo Zhenping centred on the lotus. The work draws on the phonetic association between he (lotus) and he (harmony), referring to the importance of harmony, inclusiveness and coexistence in Chinese culture. The lotus is also an established subject in Chinese flower-and-bird painting and has long carried ethical and spiritual associations. The work brings together a traditional floral motif, auspicious wordplay and ceramic practice, continuing Luo’s exploration of the contemporary expression of Chinese cultural traditions.
